Speech
In preparing for speech tournaments, students build effective communication, logical thinking, confidence, and poise. In addition, they have the chance to meet students from other schools.
Committing to two of the three all –day tournaments, Speech Team students prepare in small group sessions, an average of twice a week. Each student is asked to participate in two events at each tournament.
Interpretive Reading
Interpretive Reading includes Dramatic Reading, Humorous Reading
Duel Interpretive Reading (working with a partner to prepare and perform) and Children’s Storybook (only open to 6th and 7th graders and not available at Blanchet).
Speech Writing
Speech Writing includes Expository (describe, clarify, explain, and/or define an idea, object, concept or process), Editorial Commentary (influence toward a particular position), and Oratory (persuade).
Impromptu Speaking
Students choose either a word, a quotation, or a question of social concern for the Impromptu Speaking. With two minutes to prepare, students then speak on topic for 5 minutes.
